I’m Thankful for [This]

thankfulWhat are you thankful for? Your health? Your family? Your friends?

Thanksgiving Day, 2016, I’ll be broadcasting an hour-long Craft special on WCBE, 90.5 FM, and I’d like you to share a few minutes of what you’re thankful for with WCBE listeners.

How to participate

  • Telephone: Email me at crafttheshow@gmail.com and I’ll set up a time to call you to record your “I’m thankful for [this]” over the phone.
  • Email a sound file (mono, .wav): send your “I’m thankful for [this]” file to crafttheshow@gmail.com
  • Email text that I’ll read: email me your”I’m thankful for [this]” text  and I’ll voice it on air and give you credit

Rules

  • This isn’t a contest
  • There are no prizes (other than eternal radio fame)
  • This isn’t a rant (no politics)
  • Craft retains the right to reject any submission and to edit for length, clarity, and content
  • Participants retain copyright over words. Craft has broadcast rights on WCBE and online.

Guest host Maureen Metcalf, CEO of Metcalf & Associates, talks with Dr. Dale W. Meyerrose, Major General(Retired) about leadership and how to lead a group of people who may not have a direct reporting relationship to you. Meyerrose was the first Associate Director of National Intelligence/Intelligence Community Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Information Sharing Executive for the Director of National Intelligence (DNI). His job after 9-11 was to consolidate the intelligence agencies and enhance their joint capacity to defend the US.

Bill Shkurti book coverBill Shkurti has lived a fascinating dual life at Ohio State University: as an undergraduate from 1964-68, he experienced life as a subject of the administration, but from 1990-2010 he was an important part of the administration. These two sides led him to write his latest book The Ohio State University in the Sixties: The Unraveling of the Old Order, one of the first books from the Ohio State University Press Trillium imprint.

Join us for a discussion of how student life has changed at Ohio State, what caused the university to shut down in May of 1970, and which OSU administrator referred to Columbus Dispatch coverage of OSU events as “manufactured news stories that would make Pravda blush with envy.”

In it, she describes the medical errors and family desperation that doomed Rosemary to a life of problems and eventual lobotomy. A Brief History of Vice cover artThere’s always that one guy you know in high school who has  questionably sane ideas. In my high school, that guy was Jay. He liked to play “The Knockout Game,” the object of which was to be knocked unconscious. He liked to jump off moving car. He loved chaos.

I have a feeling that Robert Evans, my guest this week and author of A Brief History of Vice: How Bad Behavior Built Civilization, was that guy in high school. His book describes not only the history of vice but his personal experiences with it and how he’s introduced his friends to taking various preparations of “vice.” Join us for a discussion of how drunken monkeys may have led the path to society as we know it.
